Mrs. Reinsel’s

My grandfather and grandmother rented the upper floor of the most beautiful older Victorian home...
My grandmother died before I was born...
But...
My grandfather lived there until he retired...
I spent many years visiting him there...
The house had a huge wrap-around porch...
Where I was allowed to play...
The porch swing was my favorite...
As you entered the home,
You walked into a small, yet  dignified foyer with a gorgeous winding staircase....
A back staircase  brought you into the kitchen...

Mrs. Reinsel owned the home...
She was the epitome of grace...
Stately, elegant, and gracious...
So...
When I saw this piece of furniture....
I envisioned Mrs. Reinsel...

It's character is stately...
But...
Needed help on elegant....

Actually...
Left in its original condition...
It reminds me of my grandfather...
Common...Bold...Upright...

I chose to blend the two...

Keeping the hardware...
And...
Painting the piece a medium grey...
I mixed Caromal Colours Reclaim Pebble and Off-White...
Brought Elegance and Simplicity together...

This piece of furniture...
Like my grandfather and Mrs. Reinsel...
Got better with age...

Characteristics we all should model...
Brought together...

Gracious...
Yet...
Forthright...

Common...
And...
Stately...

Simple...
But...
Elegant

Blessings, Becky

  10. Hi! saw your feature on Stuff and Nonsense and thought I’d look you up… also, a few weeks ago I did a post on a piece of furniture that looks so much like yours. It was in my dad’s family for generations. Here’s the link if you’d like to see it: http://decoratewithalittlebit.com/2012/04/26/mon-416/
