Old Photo Dresser

 After college...
I did a series of drawings from old photographs...
I love the richness of sepia tones that old photos hold...
I came across this wonderful technique on Katies Rose Cottage Blog
that creates an old photo effect,

I wanted to try it....
I couldn't stop thinking about what to do...
I have been collecting straight front dressers for awhile...
Have wanted to try various ways of painting them...

I went through all my old photos...

I took my photo to Staples and enlarged it...

I painted the dresser drawers White Reclaim...
The top, sides and legs of the dresser were painted with Mocha Reclaim...

I cut the copy to fit each drawer...
The dimensions of the photo after it was enlarged,
Could not be the exact measurements of the drawers...
I decided to make the dresser photo look like it had a border.

I re-do and re-do in my work...
Because, I struggle with getting things exact...
This part taxed me...
I know for many of you, this will be easy...

I needed to match the photos on the drawers while working backwards...
Drawer by drawer...
Make sure you use enough of the Gel Medium...
I, of course, had to re-do one drawer...

I can't wait to do more...
Blessings, Becky

  47. Hi Becky! I have been decoupaging the fronts of dressers for many years, but I have never done a photo like this. I have usually used posters. I love the way this looks! I am curious what gel medium you used to do this. Was it a water based medium? Also did you put any clear coat on it?
